Tragedy struck our team on Saturday night when our colleague and friend Luis Garcia was killed in a tragic event in East Tulsa.

Luis worked in Downtown Tulsa for the last five years ensuring our neighborhood is clean and cared for. If you knew or saw Luis in the field, you would immediately recognize his infectious smile and calming demeanor. His passion for and dedication to this work and our organization led to his promotion to Team Leader over our Cleaning Ambassadors last fall. His kindness and warm spirit touched the lives of everyone he encountered, and his absence will be deeply felt by our team and the community.

Another colleague, Alexis Garcia Reyes, also lost his brother in this same tragedy. We mourn for the Garcia and Reyes families during this difficult time.

For those wishing to support the families of this tragedy, we encourage you to make a donation here. This GoFundMe has been established with approval of the Garcia family. All funds raised and messages received will be directed to the families of Luis Garcia and Alexis Garcia Reyes to provide much-needed support to their loved ones for memorial and other expenses as they navigate these heartbreaking losses.

We understand that this news may be difficult for many to process. Please know that Downtown Tulsa Partnership and Block by Block, our Ambassador Services contractor, are providing counseling and grief resources and other supports to our teams. If you need someone to talk to or require assistance, we encourage you to call 211 or visit 211eok.org for support.

Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and generosity.
